General Information

Vision:

The Canadian Muslim Women Committee p
romotes Muslim Women’s Human Rights in Quebec and Canada.

Mission:

The necessity to protect and respect the human rights of all citizens including Muslim Women is our main focus. It is also important to educate the society at large of the right of Muslim women to choose and practice their religious beliefs freely and to inform the members of the Muslim community of their rights as full citizens of this country.

Objectives:  

The objectives of the Canadian Muslim Women Committee are as follows:  

  • Educating the society of the need to respect the rights of all citizens including the right of expression of   religious beliefs.
  • Establishing contacts with the active elements of the Quebecer and Canadian society.
  • Getting out clear instructions from all sources of authority of the society for the need to respect the religious character of all citizens including Muslim Women such as the hijab and the right for alternative sport activities in schools (i.e. replacing swimming classes with other more convenient practices.)
  • Educating Muslim women about their rights and freedom of expression as per Quebec’s and Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedom.
  • Promoting women participation within women related Non governmental organizations.
  •  Defending Muslim women's rights in case there are exposed to infringement by direct intervention.

 Means:

 The means to achieve our objectives are as follows: 

  • Establishing contacts with the society’s main elements: school boards, human right organizations, and governmental social agencies.
  •  Preparing informative brochures.
  • Holding workshops.
  • Holding conferences & seminars
  • Enlightening the society by contributing articles to the media.
  • Intervening actively when needed.
